Statement
"For the most part my paintings stem from the imagination. The compositions are formed by the experiences and emotions I have had in my life. I always begin working with something from nature; this can be the figure, landscape, etc. There is always more happening at the beginning, then I eliminate some of the form as the painting develops. There is often a time in the work when I don’t believe I am aware of what is happening; the subconscious takes over and moves things around with its own mind to enlarge the boundaries of experience. I want to tell a story but one that is not obvious. I try to get to that point by using recognizable shapes and abstract form." ~ Gus Moran
