I have been painting animals for a long time. Not because I specialized in that type
of work, but because they are part of my life. Portraits come naturally. I see most animals as individuals. They may be part of my family, or someone else's, but I always know they are complete characters in themselves.
1959 ~ Owl, Stag, And Snake ~ 16"x 20" ~ Oil On Canvas | 2009 ~ Miskie ~ 8"x 10" ~ Mixed Media On Canvas Miskie was a feral wanderer who came to stay. I enjoyed putting together the (capture) element, not entrapment, but a vivid likeness which brought her spirit into the painting.
1999 ~ Dair ~ 11"x 14" ~ Mixed Media On Archival Paper This painting of Dair, my faithful companion for 13 years, is a favorite of mine. It is part of a cubist group of paintings he happened to infiltrate. | 2010 ~ Gus ~ 8"x 10" ~ Mixed Media On Canvas | 1997 ~ Dair ~ 30"x 40" ~ Acrylic On Panel This painting of Dair, is more tradinitional. In this one I think of him as the chairman of the board. | Owl
